As you might guess from the title, this is not intended to be quality writing. From this blog I intend not to utter golden words to be inscribed manyfold in the echoes of the aeons. But that’s not entirely true. What I have thought from reading blogs, from prolific works like War and Peace, from music–is that a masterpiece, a novel, is but a collection of memorable scenes, which are piles of solid paragraphs–which are built line by line, words snug like bricks in the tilework. Beauty is not a line that is painstakingly polished and agonized over to the point of tearful boredom and insanity–it must be the breath from a master, a river from a spring. And it is the spring that is important. You do not become a great pianist by practicing the same piece over and over again, more than anyone else. You are a great pianist when, after seeing that piece for the first time, you can master it within a day. Because the skill comes ultimately from understanding. No amount of blind stumbling can substitute for true sight.

In the same way, one does not become a great writer by striving to be a great writer. One becomes a great writer as a consequence of being a great person, one who can understand human nature. But this post is the only one in which I intend to speak of such things. I will probably be interested in humans to the end of my days. But to study such issues professionally, or even discuss them casually, cannot be done without entangling oneself. No, this blog is for my own educational development in a field free of such miasmas.
